Dreary!!

The past week has been pretty sad, if you are Indian and have been following incidents back home closely. I have not, until today... but today has been an eye opener!
For starters, the debate of the 50% reservation in top-notch institutions such as the IIT's and the IIM's for the so-called "OBC's" was a bitter pill to digest. As an alumnus from IIT, i believe that the IITization of many other universities was the first step in placing "quantity over quality" in the hitherto pristine IITs. This is taking it a few steps to the end of exclusivity and a haven for bright students... I am complaining cos i believe that quality should be given top priority..nothing else!! those who deserve it.. must get it!! give scholarships to ppl who get in.. base that on race.. economics.. whatever and however u want to divide humanity.. i dont care!!!!!!! let people who deserve it get in.. atleast!!!!..i have no issues with that... ok too much tooting!!!
And then the Meerut fire.... (thanks balaji...not u pusapathi).. when will we ever give enough importance to quality??? poor tents.. poor electrical work... and a few hundreds dead..and many more injured... and we still want unqualified people to get into top schools and work on top- nothc projects!!! your doctor.. should probably never have been your doctor.. he should never be there working on your health!!!!!!!... ever imagined why your newspaper seems smarter and faster with numbers than the engineer who works on your apartment?? GO FIGURE!!!! come on ppl put your thinking caps on!! and mr. politicians its not always about the vote bank....!@#$
And top that with Mr. Raj Kumar's death in Banagalore to purely medical reasons... and his fans go on a riot and burn buses...and break car panes.. why?? cos they were not allowed to catch a final glimpse of him!!! now...do people care anymore for others who are dragged into such acts of violence for no fault of theirs????
People who are holding silent protests are forced to stop their protests..and cannily forced to succumb to the Government pressure... Are we really the BIGGEST DEMOCRACY in the world? For the uninitiated, the Narmada Bachao Andolan which was almost dead attempted to raise its head against the autocratic govt+ rich contractor divide..and was mercilessly made to shut up... and we complain about human right violations in china.. stop kidding!!!
L
et us first give the children of our country education... a decent living.. the working force a decent environment to work in... the students of our nation. their right to demand education based on merit... two square meals to everyone in the country... before we talk about big things as dams.. wars.. alliances with the powerhouses of the world!!!

Where is India heading to??? To the dog house?????
Corrupt Politicians... religious fanatics.... socially unaware citizens...sweatshops... child labor.. greater and greater goes the economic divide.... and further and further apart do people move..
:(

What else do you expect? You really think it's EVER gonna get better? No siree.

It's easy to churn out screenplays.

It's tougher to mouth those dialogues.

The toughest is to actually want to improve the place and get a chance to do so. You try to fix something, and there'll be a million people to point you out as someone out to destroy the country.

The future is dystopian, dude.
In fact, the present itself is dystopian!

moose, "The toughest is to actually want to improve the place and get a chance to do so" well, i think it aint too tough to actually want to fix anything or getting a chance to do so. i think the toughest part is to actually DO something, and also stay the path despite the frustrations dat one'll undoubtedly face...

Yes it is tough to change things in a system where no one really seems to be accountable, but if we dont strive for a change, we never will know if things could be changed for the better... sorry, am an optimism addict!

Here are a couple of faxes you can send to the PMs office (or call) about
1. halting rising the level of the dam

2. supporting the Bhopalis who marched 800km to Delhi to demand a basic right...clean drinking water

Ok, my bad... I meant to say what saik did :p

But still... I'm cynical, I'm pessimistic, and I'm paranoid.

In the words of Megadeth:

So far, so good... so what?
