Waiting for THE NIGHT ......
May 17th,2006.......will remain forever etched in my head!!!! The 50th edition of the European Cup re-christened " Champions League" and what a final it promises to be. Arsenal vs Barcelona... i call it in that order simply cos of the Gallic influence that Arsenal has.. pires, henry, clichy, cygan, flamini, and last but not the least arsene wenger. Years of domination at the domestic level, and desperately poor performances in Europe have been revesed.. this year.. a new Arsenal has emerged.. one that knows how to defend its citadel, an Arsenal that is ready to compromise on its beautiful football promise just to grind out results that matter... Jose Mourinho has had an influence on Arsenal after all :)...
Who would have betted on an Arsenal team faltering domestically to perform this well...that too without its stalwarts... vieira-sold, campbell-injured or mentally tortured, ashley cole, lauren -injured; pires,reyes,ljunberg-erratic; bergie-unavailable as usual in the away games..and getting not a day younger, but a new crop has emerged- fabregas, flamini, toure, eboue, hleb, senderos, van persie and with the ever consistent performers henry and gilberto to back them...this talented bunch has taken arsenal to heights never before scaled..at this point one must point out the influence Lehmann has had in Europe in between the sticks for Arsenal.. without him..they would probably be out.. inspite of all his ridiculous tantrums.. he has etched a place for himself in the Gunners' History books...
for years... arsenal have faced the taunts of liv'pool and more importantly manutd fans.. it took manutd 8 years of domestic domination before that amazing culmination in 1999..and let us not forget that remains their greatest night to date...the famous treble... that they have won not more than horse-shit in Europe..and it has been true....the time has come... the time to change it all.. to end what has thus far been an ordinary season to culminate on one glorious night in dazzle and razzmatazz :)..Paris oo Paris... here we come!!
And what better team to play the final against.. Barcelona.. with its high profile starcast.. the club has played the best football on the planet for close to two years now... but as we all know.. the best team on the night wins... does not matter..how well you have played previously.. does not matter how long you dominate in a game... you just need to win on the night.. liverpool proved it last season that nothing is impossible..Nothing is......
And i see many parallels in the Liverpool season of 2004 with this Arsenal season... it just changed that Arsenal pipped Tottenham outright for the 4th spot in the EPL... lets hope the differences end there...
Here is my dream scenario.. Arsenal win...no matter how... and Henry does a Gerrard and stays on to lead the Gunners out into the Emirates stadium..next season!!!!
And i await with bated breath....for Henry and Puyol to lead out the two teams that play the most attractive football in the world.... for that dream final....
May the best team win... only if its Arsenal....:)

hmm ...! Tyler thinks Barca have too much firepower ... but its been a good show by arsenal (gotta hand them that much atleast). But shows gotta stop sometime.

lemme be the first to commiserate...The deserved one...lol...decent match..the man down proved costly in the end when fatigue set in...Well Played Arse though for the season..Nobody expected them here..I guess in the end the time had come for the MEN to stand up and the bachcas to go home...and guess what..the trivia Q...name the only team to have finished in the top 4 in the 2005--2006 season in EPL and not to have won any trophy...
Have also seen the last of Pires and Henry too...mebbe...
